STEWARDS OF OUR EARTH
All of God’s Creation
Social Justice Committee, Holy Cross Parish, Mt. Airy, October 12, 2025
A key Catholic Social Teaching principle is Participation. All people have a right to participate in the economic, political, and cultural life of society. It is a fundamental demand of justice and a requirement for human dignity that all people be assured a minimum level of participation in the community. Conversely, it is wrong for a person or a group to be excluded unfairly or to be unable to participate in society…. (Catholic Charities Office for Social Justice)
“Three PA Supreme Court justices will be on your November 4 ballot for a Yes/No retention vote. You’ll also have a chance to vote for one candidate each for Commonwealth and Superior Court, and to cast a retention vote for one Superior Court and one Commonwealth Court judge. Our state courts matter far more than most of us realize. Pennsylvania’s recent, more responsive congressional maps are in large part thanks to the current PA Supreme Court’s attention to the state constitution.” (Carol Kuniholm, Fair Districts PA, 10/3/25)
“The PA Supreme Court (PASC) oversees many important matters in our state and has the final say in a variety of electoral matters. Here are some points to consider.
* In the recent redrawing of PA’s Congressional maps, the current PASC members upheld un-gerrymandered maps against a challenge.
* In the recent redrawing of PA State House and Senate maps, the current PASC members appointed a commission chair who led a transparent and inclusive map-drawing process for the first time in our state’s history, resulting in maps recognized nationwide for fairness.
* The PASC members have repeatedly supported voting rights through their rulings on mail-in ballots.
* PASC’s current members protected the certification of the results of the 2020 election against a challenge.” (Fair Districts PA)
“The race has drawn intense attention locally and nationally in part because the decisions the court makes in the next three years will set the rules for critical elections for governor and president, deciding whose ballots are counted and how Pennsylvanians vote.” (Katie Bernard, The Philadelphia Inquirer, 10/6/25)
