STEWARDS OF OUR EARTH

All of God’s Creation

Social Justice Committee, Holy Cross Parish, Mt. Airy, January 11, 2026

Laudato Si’  (Praised Be) On Care for Our Common Home is the title of the Encyclical Letter written by Pope Francis in 2015. In his letter, Pope Francis draws inspiration from St. Francis of Assisi. “He shows us just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace.” (Laudato Si’ 10)

Francis' powerful letter to the world is “critical in giving ethical and moral language to debates around climate change and helping break through techno-centric negotiations…. In his early papacy, Leo has demonstrated he intends to continue Francis' emphasis on environmental concerns, and the Holy See — now a party to the Paris Agreement — has become more engaged in U.N. climate deliberations.” (EarthBeat, Brian Roewe, Environment Correspondent, National Catholic Reporter, 12/12/25)

Across continents and communities, the Laudato Si’ Movement has continued to grow as a living network of people responding to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor—rooted in prayer, strengthened by relationships, and courageous in action….

In 2026, the Laudato Si’ Movement steps into a new chapter—From Hope to Action. This will be a year of convergence, where prayer becomes courage, community becomes movement, and local action shapes global witness.” (Christina Leaño, Associate Director, Laudato Si' Movement, 12/27/25)

Some of the priorities that will shape the year ahead include:

  • Engaging Member Organizations so local voices shape global action

  • Promotion of the Mass for the Care of Creation

  • Renewal of the Creation Care Prayer Network

  • A strengthened Season of Creation

  • Expanded pathways for institutional ecological transformation

  • Practical tools for measurable change

  • Advancing a just fossil fuel phase-out

  • Expanding Catholic divestment and ethical bank-switching

  • Support for the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty

  • Re-energizing youth leadership through formation and organizing in preparation for World Youth Day 2027 in Korea.

On Saturday, January 17 at 8:00 am EST, join our global family as we gather online for a moment of prayer, gratitude, and communion across continents and cultures. (Christina Leaño, 12/27/25)

“God of life, teach us to walk gently on this Earth, to listen deeply to the cries around us, and to respond with love that becomes action. Amen.” (Christina Leaño, 12/27/25)
